The Ploughman’s Lunch

Let’s Make A Difference

Like many Australians I’ve been touched by the loss of loved ones through depression and mental illness.

On Friday the 20th of November, The Ploughman’s Lunch will bring family, friends and colleagues together to raise awareness and funds in the memory of those lost and currently battling with depression, anxiety and mental illness.

So get your group together, prepare your fine Australian cold cuts, dips, fruit, bread and wine and donate to this worthy cause.

To register your donation please click here to visit ‘The Ploughman’s Lunch’ donation page.

What is a ‘Ploughman’s Lunch’?

According to GoodFood.com.au a Ploughman’s Lunch was originally a British farm worker’s packed lunch – crumbly, cloth-bound cheddar, strong pickles and tough bread – the ploughman’s was promoted as a quick, easy pub meal in the late 1950s as part of a campaign to get people to eat more cheese. With the rise of casual eating, shared platters and craft beer – its ideal companion – the ploughman’s is being put to work once again.

Here’s an example of what a Ploughman’s Lunch may consist of but feel free to create your own Ploughman’s fare – just start with a platter!

  • A good Australian farmhouse cheddar is at the heart and soul of a ploughman’s.
  • 6 thick slices rare roast beef or leg ham.

  • 2 hard-boiled eggs, peeled and halved.

Wash it all down with your favourite drink.
