The diversity of content and learning methods is the real magic of the way we train our people. It features case study learning, member-led forums, and traditional class-room style education events. Its contents extend from leadership development and personal development, to sales skills, to property management to the utilisation of technology, and much more. Each training session is delivered by the brilliant talent within our own corporate team and from some of our best network members, as well as in-demand external speakers.
Want a taste of what happens at one of our many conferences – take a look at the Connect 2018 video below:
“I was an electrician before I entered real estate and I remember one day I sat in a lunch room and there was a gentleman who was in his mid-60s looking really depressed and down. I asked him what was wrong, and he said, ‘I was planning on going to a camping ground to take my family on a holiday but an unforeseen phone bill came in so I can’t do it.’ That was the moment I realised that being a sparky wasn’t for me. I went for a trip overseas, came back and met with my good mate Haesley Cush who had just started Ray White New Farm. Haesley was 28 years old, desperate for sales agents and gave me a job. The rest is history.
“I am Rhodesian (from Zimbabwe). In Africa, if you don’t work you don’t eat because there’s no help from the government. It’s built in that you have to work hard if you want to eat so that’s what I’ve done. We have been here for 37 years and it’s the best move we ever made. With the trouble that was there we wanted a better future for our two daughters. We arrived with basically nothing. I think we had $10,000 Australian dollars which at that time was enough for a house deposit. We had our two girls, so I bought four plates, four cups, four knives, four forks, four towels, just the basics. We really had very little so I’ve always been very appreciative that I have done well in real estate.
“I left my chef life in Melbourne kitchens to work in real estate because I wanted a job where my earning capacity wasn’t capped at a certain level. Just over 14 years ago I saw an ad in the paper for a traineeship at Ray White Ferntree Gully and thought, I could do that. I picked up the phone, got the interview and the rest is history.
“I moved to Australia from India as an 18-year-old to study IT. I arrived with two bags of clothes, $2,000 in my pocket, didn’t know anyone and with no mobile phone. Fresh into the country I moved to Geelong, studied at the University of Ballarat for four years but didn’t want to work in IT so I did part-time jobs mainly at petrol stations and restaurants to get enough money for a security licence. While working at the servo, a regular customer who worked at Ray White suggested I should try real estate. She gave me her boss’ number and that’s how it all started at Ray White Lara in 2011. I’m still good friends with her, she’s on my Facebook so every time I post about an award or something she always comments, ‘you’ve come a long way from the servo, my friend’.
